Lighting for company premises and car parks

Site lighting decides how safe your staff, cameras and property are after dark – and it is also the part of the company that stays lit the longest. We treat it as a whole: access road, car park, loading bays, the space between halls, entrances and the perimeter fence.

We design, supply and install LED lighting for company premises to EN 12464-2 – pole-mounted street luminaires, floodlights on façades and silos, sensor luminaires at entrances, and time- and motion-based dimming that cuts consumption even after dark.

What site lighting must handle

A site is not one flat area. The access road needs different light from a loading bay where lorries are loaded at night, and the car park needs different light from a fence with cameras. That is why we start the design by dividing the site into zones and assigning each one an illuminance level to the standard – no dark corners and no light that disturbs the neighbours.

Safety and CCTV

Even light with no dark spots on footpaths, at entrances and along the fence. A camera system needs lighting under which it can recognise a face and a number plate.

Zones to the standard

Car park, access road, loading bays, open-air storage and entrances all have different values in EN 12464-2 – from 5 lx to 50 lx. A DIALux design shows where less is enough and where more is needed.

No obtrusive light

Optics that light the surface, not the neighbours’ windows or the sky. Asymmetric distributions for car parks and roads, tilting brackets for façade floodlights.

Low cost and durability

A site is lit 4,000 hours a year. LED with efficacy of up to 181 lm/W, IP 66 protection and surge protection, dimmed to half at night, usually pays for itself within 2 – 3 years.

How much light a site needs

EN 12464-2 for outdoor workplaces specifies a maintained illuminance and uniformity for every zone of the site. The values are lower than indoors, but they apply to the whole area – a dark patch between two poles is both a failed standard and a safety risk.

The values are indicative. We determine the exact pole layout and height for your site in a lighting calculation.

ILLUMINANCESITE ZONE
5 lxfootpaths, roads with slow traffic, little-used car park
10 lxaccess roads, regular staff car park
20 lxbusy car park, open-air material storage, space between halls
50 lxbuilding entrances, gates, loading bays and handling areas

Which luminaire for which part of the site

A site always combines several luminaire types, depending on whether there is a pole, a façade or just an area with no power supply.

Access road, car park, site roads

Pole-mounted luminaires

Street lighting with asymmetric optics for roads and car parks. STELA and STELA MINI with efficacy of up to 174 lm/W, SARA up to 181 lm/W, all IP 66 / IK 10 with 8 – 10 kV surge protection and dimming. We supply the poles too.

RONIN LED floodlight

Façades, silos, space between halls

Floodlights

Where there is no pole, we light the area from a façade or silo. RONIN from 18 to 258 W with symmetric and asymmetric optics, FALON with eight beam angles, FARA III up to 240 W. For large areas and rail sidings, FELIX from 400 W.

SOLAR FLEXI LED solar street light

Entrances, gates, places with no power supply

Entrances and solar luminaires

NOVA and NIKO wall luminaires rated IP 65 for entrances and gates, SANDRA sensor luminaires for gatehouses and shelters. For remote car parks and fences with no cable, SOLAR FLEXI solar luminaires with a battery for 3 to 4 days without sun.

Controls: full light only when the site needs it

A site is lit from dusk till morning, but once the last shift has left, a fraction of the light is enough. Lighting controls dim the luminaires along a pre-programmed night curve, sensors at the gates and in the car park bring a section up to full only when there is movement, and a dusk switch turns the system on exactly at nightfall – with no timer that needs resetting.

  • autonomous dimming – a pre-programmed night curve with no extra cabling
  • motion sensors in the car park, at gates and loading bays
  • dusk switch instead of manual switching
  • DALI or 1 – 10 V for control from the building management system
  • separate circuits: fence and cameras vs. car park
  • solar luminaires with a sensor for places with no power supply

Case study

Cargo-partner site in Bratislava

The logistics company’s site was lit by 40 discharge floodlights of 400 W (420 W with ballast), running 7 days a week, 11 hours a day – 67,200 kWh a year. We replaced them one for one with 40 LED floodlights of 100 W. The system’s power draw fell from 16,800 W to 4,080 W, annual consumption to 16,320 kWh and energy and maintenance costs from €8,528 to €1,877. The investment paid for itself in 1.9 years, and after ten years the system is still running without a single service call.

Before

  • 40 discharge floodlights of 400 W
  • 16,800 W, 67,200 kWh a year
  • €800 a year on lamp replacement

Solution

  • 40 LED floodlights of 100 W, one for one
  • 4,080 W, 16,320 kWh a year
  • maintenance-free, 10 years in operation

“After 10 years everything still works and we haven’t had to change anything.”

How we work together

01

Site survey

We walk the site after dark – poles, façades, power supplies, cameras and the places that are dark today.

02

DIALux calculation

Division into zones to EN 12464-2, luminaire type and mounting height, optics, uniformity.

03

Quote with payback

Price, savings and payback on the investment in one document – including poles and controls.

04

Installation in stages

One-for-one replacement or section by section – operations and site access keep running.

05

Warranty and service

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what site managers and business owners ask us most often.

How many lux should a car park and access road have?

According to EN 12464-2, a little-used car park and footpaths need 5 lx, a regular staff car park and access road 10 lx, a busy car park and open-air storage 20 lx. Building entrances, gates and loading bays need 50 lx.

Can we replace just the luminaire and keep the poles and cabling?

On most sites, yes. STELA and SARA luminaires mount on a standard bracket arm or post top, floodlights on the original brackets. If poles are missing or in poor condition, we supply new ones including foundations.

What about parts of the site with no electrical supply?

A remote car park, fence or road with no cable can be lit by SOLAR FLEXI solar luminaires with a motion sensor and a battery for 3 to 4 days without sun. Installation takes hours and no trenching is needed.

Will the lighting disturb the neighbours or dazzle drivers?

Not if the right optics are used. Street luminaires have asymmetric distributions that light the road rather than the surroundings, and we set the tilt of façade floodlights so they do not shine above the horizon. We verify this in the calculation.

How can we save even more than by switching to LED?

By dimming. Autonomous dimming reduces output after midnight to 30 – 50 % with no extra cabling, and sensors bring the car park up to full light only when there is movement. In practice this adds another 20 – 40 % to the LED savings.

How quickly does the investment pay back?

A site is lit for around 4,000 hours a year, so LED pays back fast – at the Cargo-partner site in 1.9 years when replacing discharge floodlights. You get the exact payback in a quote with a savings calculation.

What warranty do you provide?

5 years on STELA, STELA MINI and SARA street luminaires and on RONIN, FALON, FARA III and FELIX floodlights. A 10-year warranty on STELA is available for a surcharge.
