Tailor-made lighting for production halls

Well-designed lighting in a production hall makes for an efficient and safe working environment and has a positive effect on the comfort, productivity and health of workers.

We design, supply and install LED lighting for production halls so that it meets the standard at every workstation while cutting energy costs – from the lighting calculation right through to programmed controls.

What production hall lighting must handle

Every production hall is different and has specific requirements for the type and placement of luminaires, given its dimensions and the layout of machines, production lines and racking. That is why we tailor each design individually. If the hall is divided into sections (workshop, warehouse, production), we design the optimum lighting for each one separately.

Uniformity

No dark areas and no excessive contrast between workstations, aisles and machines.

High intensity from height

High ceilings and large floor areas need high-output LED lighting – economical and at the same time truly powerful.

Durability

Round-the-clock operation calls for luminaires that withstand chemicals, dust, high temperatures, humidity and vibration.

Low running costs

Long service life, high efficacy and controls that provide light only where and when it is needed.

How much light a production hall needs

The required illuminance is set by EN 12464-1 according to the work performed at each location. The standard assesses not only the average value but also the uniformity of the lighting and glare.

The values are indicative. We determine the exact value for your workstations in a lighting calculation.

ILLUMINANCETYPE OF SPACE OR TASK
50 – 100 lxcorridors, staircases, circulation areas
150 – 200 lxwarehouses, rough work, plant rooms
300 lxgeneral machining work
500 lxgeneral assembly
750 – 1,000 lxfine assembly, quality control
1,500 lx and morevery precise work, electronics

Which luminaire for which hall

We choose the luminaire type by ceiling height, environment and activity – as a rule of thumb, linear luminaires up to 6 m, high-efficiency industrial luminaires above 6 m. For production halls we usually start from these three groups.

LED luminaires with controls in a production hall

Lighting controls: extra savings on top

Lighting controls in a production hall can make a big contribution to a better working environment, optimised production processes and lower energy costs. In Partizánske, programmed dimming and switching off during absence brought an additional 30 % saving in energy costs.

  • presence and light-level sensors
  • daylight sensors
  • dimming schedule
  • energy monitoring
  • remote control
  • control from a tablet and phone

Production and warehouse premises in Partizánske

We provided the client with a complete lighting replacement service, including removal of the old luminaires, installation of the new ones and programming of the controls. Using a DIALux simulation, we designed the layout, quantities and wattages of the luminaires so that every workstation reaches the required illuminance level and uniformity.

  • T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes
  • no sensor control
  • frequent failures
  • high maintenance costs

Solution

  • high-efficiency LED luminaires

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what customers ask us most often about production hall lighting.

How much does production hall lighting cost?

The price depends on the floor area and height of the hall, the required illuminance and the extent of the controls. You get the exact price together with the savings and payback after a site survey and a DIALux calculation.

What is the payback on the investment?

It depends mainly on the number of operating hours and the price of electricity. In our production hall installations it ranged from 1.6 years (Wertheim, 80 % energy savings) to 5 years (Partizánske, 65 % savings).

How many lux should a production hall have?

According to EN 12464-1, roughly 300 lx for general machining work, 500 lx for general assembly and 750 – 1,000 lx for fine assembly and quality control.

Is it enough to replace the old luminaires one for one?

Sometimes, yes. The calculation shows whether a one-for-one replacement meets the standard or whether it pays to change the number and layout of the luminaires.

Do we have to stop production during installation?

Usually not. We adapt the installation to the conditions in your hall – we use the summer shutdown, the breaks between shifts in three-shift operation, or install at the weekend or at night. We always agree the dates to suit you as much as possible.

What warranty do you provide?

3 to 10 years on luminaires, depending on the type.
