Original lighting
The original lighting of the production hall measuring 96 × 60 m consisted of 10 rows of 32 (a total of 320) T5 fluorescent luminaires rated at 126 W with no light level control. The electricity consumption of this system was approximately 227,405 kWh a year.
At €0.10/kWh, the customer’s annual energy costs were €22,740.48.
New lighting
The customer required a design that would allow the equipment to run in continuous operation and a lighting level of 300 lx throughout the hall. As a replacement for the T5 fluorescent luminaires, we offered an energy-saving solution of 318 LENA 49 W LED linear luminaires with a DALI bus.

A subsequent calculation in lighting software showed the light distribution in the space, including the corresponding illuminance values in lux.
Savings achieved
Additional energy cost savings were achieved by programming the luminaires to dim and switch off when no one is present. Lighting control contributes 30% of the savings.
With the new lighting, the customer now uses about 61,518 kWh a year to light the production hall. At €0.10/kWh, its annual energy costs are €6,151.77.
The expected energy saving is therefore €16,588.71 a year, and the initial investment pays back in 4.3 years.
The service life of the LENA LED linear luminaires is 100,000 hours (L80B50), which for this customer means 17.7 years. The total expected saving over the life of the luminaires can therefore exceed €398,128.95.
The total CO2 saving over the life of the luminaires is as much as 1,764.8 tonnes.
COMPARISON OF THE ORIGINAL AND NEW LIGHTING
| Original lighting | New lighting | |
| Total luminaire power | 126 W | 34,3 W* |
| Number of luminaires | 320 pcs | 318 pcs |
| Total power of all luminaires | 40 320 W | 15 582 W |
| Annual energy costs | EUR 22,740.48 | EUR 6,151.77 |
| Annual saving achieved | – | EUR 16,588.71 |
* Total power was reduced from 49 W to 70% by dimming, i.e. 34.3 W.
