What pitch lighting must handle
Pitch lighting should be bright enough, yet it must not cause glare. The lighting system has to provide optimum visibility and unobtrusive light so that the risk of injury is minimised.

Even light distribution across the whole playing area prevents unwanted shadows and excessive contrast.
No glare
The right pole height, beam angle and aiming of the floodlights so that the light does not dazzle players, spectators or the neighbourhood.

How much light a pitch needs
The requirements for sports lighting are set by EN 12193. It distinguishes three classes by level of competition – the higher the competition, the more light and the better the uniformity required.
The values in the table apply to outdoor football and are indicative. Other sports have their own values; we determine the exact requirements for your pitch in a lighting calculation.

Lighting controls bring additional savings and let you adapt the lighting to current conditions and the needs of players or visitors. At the pitch in Dubnica nad Váhom, 30 % of luminaire output is preset for training and the scenes are switched from a mobile app.
As part of a SMART CITY concept, the luminaires can also be fitted with further sensors and technologies – cameras, wi-fi or air quality monitoring.

Case study
Sports pitch in Dubnica nad Váhom
For the organisation Dumat we carried out a lighting modernisation of a sports pitch. We replaced the original discharge floodlights with 24 LED floodlights of 1,200 W with DALI controls. The programmed lighting scenes are operated via a mobile app – 30 % of luminaire output is preset for training, bringing further cost savings.

How much does football pitch lighting cost?
The price depends on the size of the pitch, the required lighting class, the number and height of the poles, and whether the existing poles and cabling can be reused. You get the exact price after a site survey and a lighting calculation.
How many lux does a football pitch need?
According to EN 12193, roughly 75 lx for training and recreational sport, 200 lx for mid-level competition and 500 lx for top-level competition.
Can the existing poles be used?
Often, yes. During the site survey we assess their condition, height and layout, and the calculation verifies whether they will achieve the required illuminance and uniformity.
Will the lighting disturb the neighbouring houses?
A correctly chosen beam angle, pole height and floodlight aiming limit light spilling beyond the playing area. We allow for this in the design.
Can the light be dimmed during training?
Yes. The controls let you switch scenes – training and match, for example. In Dubnica nad Váhom the pitch runs at 30 % output during training, which further reduces consumption.
Do you supply the poles and installation too?
Yes, we handle the lighting from design to completion, including poles, installation, floodlight aiming and controls.
